DOORS refers to the ancient exterior gates of old houses in border villages in the neighboring countries of Macedonia, Greece and Albania which are quickly disappearing. Children living in these villages document them by photographing them and in doing so learn to appreciate the artistic as well as historic significance of these valuable artifacts. DOORS promotes cross-border communication by giving the children an opportunity to share and discuss the photographs online with their peers. The project also promotes individual excellence and initiative in a team setting, as all of the participating children vote on the best photographs to be selected and published in a book.
