DOORS refers to the ancient exterior gates of old houses in border villages in the neighboring countries of Macedonia, Greece and Albania which are quickly disappearing. Children living in these villages document them by photographing them and in doing so learn to appreciate the artistic as well as historic significance of these valuable artifacts. DOORS promotes cross-border communication by giving the children an opportunity to share and discuss the photographs online with their peers. The project also promotes individual excellence and initiative in a team setting, as all of the participating children vote on the best photographs to be selected and published in a book

ABOUT THE VILLAGE
The village of Trebishte, in Golo Brdo is the largest village in this area of northeastern Albania and home to about 4,000 Macedonians. The area of Golo Brodo was annexed to Albania when the modern Albanian State was created in 1919.
Golo Brdo means Barren Hill. Of the initial 167 Macedonian villages in 1923 there are only 47 left where ethnic Macedonians live.
A thirty-five mile long dirt road connects the village of Trebishte to the nearest asphalt road in the Albanian town of Dzepishte . It would be a twenty-minute walk if a crossing were to be built to connect the village directly to the nearest town in Western Macedonia.
